What you should know about antacids for heartburn and acid reflux.

From personal experience, one of the most sudden and painful price you can pay for eating delicious spicy food or acidic fruits… is acid reflux while deeply asleep followed by the uncomfortable and annoying heartburn. While this experience is not unique to me, it can still be an annoying problem shared by many around the world.

That is where antacids come in to save the night or day as your case maybe. However, before simply buying any antacid out of annoyance, it would be wise to find out what your chosen antacid contains before taking it, note that not all antacids are good for pregnant women and in some cases, some might not be good for you if you have other medical conditions and have to take pills that don’t go well with the chemicals in the wrong antacid for you. So, please do consult your doctor on what antacid is ok for you.

Here are some things to know about the chemicals contained in most antacids and what they do, to help you along for your benefit.

Aluminium: This is a fast-acting chemical that absorbs the acidity from your stomach, acting as an antibacterial that helps to purify the body to relief you of the uncomfortable burning pain in your chest area. Regardless of how effective aluminium is, it comes with a side effect that stops you from feeling hungry due to its slow release into the body.

Calcium carbonate: This helps the body recover quickly from the effects of the chemicals that caused your body to reflux, and it prevents the gasses from causing any more reflux from your stomach all the way up to your chest. However, calcium carbonate can cause kidney stones in time, due to its absorbing activities in the stomach.

Magnesium: This is not as absorbent as calcium carbonate. However, it helps the stomach obtain relief in a steady way, which neutralises the effects of the acids and helps release them out of the body.

Sodium Bicarbonate: This chemical also known as baking soda, is used to regulate the PH levels in your body and helping you get relief from heartburn after taking the antacid, due to its ability to increase in size and gas when liquid is applied.

It is highly important to neutralise the excess acids from your body even if you somehow don’t mind the heartburn and acid reflux, because there is chance that your stomach might develop ulcer over time due to the constant irritation from the acids. So, if you are a hot food lover like yours truly, please do yourself a favour and find out the best antacids for you, so that you can have some by your bed side ready to go when that annoying painful acid reflux comes knocking, or for when you are being bothered by heartburn.
